Convincing a young and healthy person that a living will is necessary can be frustrating. That person feels invincible because of age and general good health. It doesn’t make sense to have something like a living will unless you are a senior citizen. That is a terrible mistake to make. The same person may not have incurable cancer, but could be involved in a very serious accident. That can leave him or her in a state of coma; unable to communicate and creating some major difficulties as a consequence. Living wills are part of a good group legal plan and there are three major reasons why a person regardless of age ought to have one.

Start 2015 with some important legal chores

We have a brand-new year and there’s so much to be done. Everyone likes to have a few resolutions as goals to reach in a 12 month period, but not everybody is going to keep every resolution. Once all the football games are over here are three New Year’s resolutions that you ought to keep. If you have a group legal plan these will not be difficult at all.

  1. Double Check Those Warranties and Contracts

You may have purchased a warranty along with that special present at Christmas. Take a very close look at the language. Companies are going to uphold warranties, but only under specific situations. For example, if you use aftermarket parts instead of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for any car repair the warranty may not cover it. An attorney who is part of a group legal plan that offers review of legal paperwork as a group legal service can help. He or she will tell you what is covered by the warranty. In no uncertain terms it prevents you from making a hasty mistake.

Preparing a will is the most common group legal services benefit and the one most people try to avoid. Employees view it as a morbid task that doesn’t have to be performed when in the prime of life. A medical crisis is a grim possibility. A serious or unexpected cardiac arrest can suddenly put a very active person into a comatose state. This is a serious form of medical limbo wherein the victim is still physically alive but unable to communicate. It is a rare situation that has a person being kept alive by medical support machines. That is what hospitals are required to do even though it is clear the individual never again be conscious. Families have to endure a situation where they do not have the authority to bring about closure. It is a dire circumstance and a group legal services plan that permits the drafting of a living will prevents this from happening.

The Last Testament Protects the Estate

The American public got used to the concept of healthcare exchanges during the debate over health insurance these past few years. Employers are now also attuned the idea of private exchanges, where employees may purchase the coverages they will most often use. That gives these exchanges an incentive to put in legal benefits that are readily usable by any plan member. Exchanges, however, need to be aware of the type of benefits in any group legal plan that is offered on their exchange. A very important one is preparation of wills.

Living Wills Provide the Last Instructions

Death and taxes are the two most certain things of life, and nobody wants to think of either one of them. Mortality does take its toll ultimately and hopefully it will be after a long life. Death bed scenarios with long speeches are the stuff of Hollywood, however. It doesn’t always happen that a person is conscious when the Grim Reaper finally shows up. Indeed, a person may have a sudden stroke and become unconscious and then comatose. Under these circumstances the individual moves into a limbo of life support systems. He or she cannot communicate but the equipment keeps the body alive. This puts a terrible strain on loved ones that can be made easier with a living will.

Dependents should not be left to the mercy of the courts

A death is a very sad time for a family. Relatives will gather at the funeral to reminisce about a lost loved one and share grief. It is a troublesome time but for some people the saddest moments are yet to come. The added hardship is the result of the deceased not having prepared a final will and testament.
